Henry L. Trattler, MD

As a founding member of the Center For Excellence in Eye Care, Dr. Henry L. Trattler has been in private practice for over thirty-five years as a board-certified ophthalmologist. Dr. Trattler is a past President of both the Miami Ophthalmologic Society and the Greater Miami Chapter of the American College of Surgeons.He is Co-Executive Director of the Miami Ophthalmologic Society and Chairman of the Board for Recording for the Blind and Dyslexia, Florida Unit.This charitable organization serves over 100,000 Florida students who are visually handicapped so that they can attend regular schools.

He currently serves as the Medical Director and Chairman of the Board for the Medical Arts Surgical Center, the outpatient surgery center at Baptist Hospital.As a Voluntary Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, he actively teaches clinical ophthalmology and instructs the residents-in-training in advanced cataract surgery.

Dr. Trattler is Vice President of the Sports Ophthalmology Society of the Americas.He has been the ophthalmologist for the Miami HEAT professional basketball team since its inception into the NBA. He previously was the team ophthalmologist for the Miami SOL WNBA Team and the Miami Manatees WHA Professional Hockey Team during their short existence in Miami.

Dr. Trattler has been a glaucoma consultant to both Merck and Pharmacia Ophthalmology Pharmaceuticals.He has served on the advisory council for Transitions Optical, the world’s largest producer of variable tint lenses for the optical industry. Published in numerous medical and trade journals, Dr. Trattler is on the editorial board of Refractive Eyecare.
