The Visian ICL is a special lens made of artificial materials that is placed in the eye of eligible candidates to correct vision in nearsighted individuals. Candidates should ideally be between 21 and 45, suffer from myopia (nearsightedness) and have no history of eye diseases such as glaucoma or retinal disease. The Visian ICL lens is placed in the eye through a small incision and positioned in a space behind the iris and in front of the natural lens. The Visian ICL works with the natural crystalline lens to correct vision. The power of the lens is calculated based on the patient’s prescription. The procedure is usually performed under topical anesthesia in an outpatient surgery setting and takes about 15 minutes. There is minimal discomfort. Patients may resume reasonable activities the following day. Visual return is rapid and most patients are able to drive and return to work the following day.

What if my RX changes?

The Visian ICL is permanent as long as the Visian ICL stays in your eye. In the unlikely event that there is a dramatic change in vision, the Visian ICL can be removed and replaced.

Will I still need to wear reading glasses?

The lens is designed to create clear distance vision. Most patients over the age of 40 will require reading glasses as the Visian ICL does not correct the condition known as presbyopia (aging of the eye).

Can the Visian ICL be seen by others?

No. The lens is not visible to the naked eye.

How long has the procedure been performed?

The lens has been available for more than 10 years worldwide.
