Sanja Cypen, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in oculofacial plastic, reconstructive and orbital surgery. She is originally from Bosnia & Herzegovina and immigrated to the United States in 1992. An avid classical pianist, Dr. Cypen earned a Bachelor of Music in piano performance from the University of Florida. She completed medical school at the University of Miami

Miller School of Medicine, followed by ophthalmology residency at Duke University. She was then selected for a highly competitive ASOPRS-accredited (American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons) fellowship in oculofacial plastic, reconstructive and orbital surgery at the
University of California, Irvine. During fellowship, she also dedicated time to training ophthalmology residents in general ophthalmology and oculofacial plastic surgery, and she served on staff at the VA Hospital in Long Beach, California.

Dr. Cypen believes in taking an individualized approach to each patient so as to maximize patient
satisfaction. She is passionate about all aspects of oculofacial surgery, including cosmetic and functional
surgeries and minimally invasive procedures. She has extensive experience in eyelid and midface
reconstruction, including after trauma, skin cancer removals and prior surgeries. She is also an
experienced orbital surgeon, having performed many orbital decompressions, tumor removals and
fracture repairs.

Dr. Cypen sees patients of all ages and offers the following procedures:

• Eyelid malposition repair (ectropion, entropion, retraction, poor eyelid closure)

• Reconstruction after Mohs surgery

In her spare time, Dr. Cypen loves to be outdoors with her husband and two children. She enjoys
traveling and playing tennis and is an enthusiastic fan of Miami’s professional sports teams. She is
excited to be back in South Florida providing care to our community.
