LASIK produces better visual outcomes than ever before. Get rid of your contacts this summer!

What we know of “modern LASIK” has now been studied, reviewed and its outcomes have been officially published.

The data we received supports that LASIK is safe, efficacious and that the vast majority of patients are extremely satisfied with their outcomes.

The global LASIK scientific literature reviews were first conducted in 2009 and included nearly 3,000 LASIK studies published between 1988-2008. During this time, the data provided that LASIK’s safety and performance showed a 95.4% satisfaction rate among patients.

Now, “Modern LASIK” has been studied in order for that same group to determine whether modern LASIK has improved patient outcomes compared to the first reviewed technology used.

Over 4,400 clinical studies of LASIK’s performance and safety between 2008 to 2015 were reviewed.

The findings were published in the July 2016 Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and entitled “Modern Laser in Situ Keratomileusis Outcomes,”.

So…what’s the verdict?

Patients are experiencing better visual outcomes than ever before.

This large data pool also proved that the procedure has improved over time and, with the advent of modern technology and techniques, is among the safest and most effective elective procedures available today.

The LASIK scientific literature review also reports the global patient satisfaction rate has increased to more than 98 percent.

Kerry Solomon, M.D., the current president of the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), director of the Carolina Eyecare Research Center, and a lead study author, stated, “Our work underscores the fact there is a tremendous amount of research both supporting and advancing the science of LASIK; there is simply no questioning its excellence from a clinical perspective. We were impressed by how good the data was and that it was consistently good across many articles.”

The paper that was published in the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery can be found here. Read more about the study’s findings here.

We are more than proud to report that we see very happy LASIK patients every day here at The Center for Excellence in Eye Care.
