Henry L. Trattler, MD

As a founding member of the Center for Excellence in Eye Care, Henry L. Trattler, MD has been in private practice for over 40 years as a board-certified ophthalmologist. He is currently the Executive Director of the Miami Ophthalmologic Society. He has previously been President of The Greater Miami Chapter of the American College of Surgeons, President of the Miami Ophthalmologic Society, Chairman of the Board of Recording for the Blind and Dyslexia, Florida Unit. As a founder of the Medical Arts Surgical Center at Baptist Hospital, he has continuously served as its Medical Director and Chairman of the Board. He has also served as chief of Ophthalmology at numerous local hospitals.

As a Lieutenant Commander (R) in the US Coast Guard, he was acting as Chief of Ophthalmology and Director of the Ophthalmology residency program in the largest US Public Health Service Hospital located on Staten Island, NY. Leaving active duty in the military and returning to Miami, Dr. Trattler continues to teach as Voluntary Associate Professor at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute (advanced cataract surgery and emergency room supervision). There he has won “Teacher of the Year” accolades. He is also an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at F.I.U. Herbert Wertheim School of Medicine where he instructs and lectures to medical students.

As an ophthalmologist for the University of Miami and FIU student-athletes, he has continuously served as the team ophthalmologist for the MIAMI HEAT since its inception to the NBA in 1988. He also held the same position for the Miami SOL WNBA team and the Miami Manatees Professional Hockey team of the WHA during their shorter tenure in Miami.

As a consultant to numerous pharmaceutical companies, he also served on the Medical Advisory Board of Transitions Optical, the world’s largest producer of variable tint lenses for the optical industry.
